School for Shelter Dogs

Volunteers use positive reinforcement and clicker training to prepare puppies and dogs for life in their adoptive homes.  Training animals in the shelter enriches their stay with us and gives them a head start on future obedience classes.  All of the methods we use for shelter animals are designed to complement classes at our Good Dog Academy. 

Pre-requisites: 

10 hours of basic canine enrichment experience, not including training

Training:   

1. Complete a Volunteer Application
   
2. Attend a Volunteer Orientation Session
3. Attend Canine Enrichment Training
   
4. Attend the following individual training modules:
   
   • First Impressions
   • Puppy Prep
   • Play to Win
   • Manners 101
   • Reading to Rover
