The Cat Days of Summer Bring $20.10 Feline Adoptions

July 2, 2010 - Wesley is an SHS alum!Just in case the heat of the season brings to mind the "dog days of summer," the Spartanburg Humane Society (SHS) wants to remind everyone that 2010 is the Year of the Cat  by setting feline adoption prices at an all time low.  In honor of the yearlong celebration, adopters can bring a cat from the SHS into their lives for $20.10.  The special pricing will last from July 3rd - July 11th.

Adopters will receive the same services that are included in regularly priced adoptions.  For $20.10, cats will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, started on their vaccines, and 2010 is the Year of the Cat!feline leukemia negative.  Adopters will also receive a free wellness examination, 30 days of pet health insurance, and all the resources they may need to insure their new relationship starts out on the right foot.

"When adopting from the SHS, pet lovers receive an incredible value.  We provide services that would cost hundreds of dollars elsewhere," said Sandy Christiansen, President and CEO of the Spartanburg Humane Society.  "In addition, adopters will receive unconditional love from their new best friend and the gift of knowing they have given a deserving animal a second chance."

From July 3rd through the 11th, hundreds of cats and kittens will be turned in to the shelter.  With the special adoption price, staff and volunteers are eager to see more feline friends than ever adopted into loving and caring homes.

ABOUT THE YEAR OF THE CAT:
The Spartanburg Humane Society has declared 2010 the Year of the Cat in order to reverse the fortune of felines in this community.  While kittens and cats are over-represented in the annual number of animals who are brought to the shelter, they are significantly under-represented in nearly all of the life saving services offered by the SHS, from spay/neuter to adoption.  During the yearlong celebration, community members will have many chances to partner with the SHS to take positive actions on behalf of cats.
